Garden Grill is located just upstairs from Soarin within the Land Pavilion within Epcot. As it is within the park valid theme park tickets are required to eat here. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and all are served family style. Family style means that all the food is brought to you on large plates for all your party to share. Don’t worry if you run out, they are always happy to bring you more. Four of your favourite characters appear at every meal, currently they are Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale.
The restaurant also has a really unique feature – it rotates! As it rotates you will pass through the scenes of living with the land. This feature does put people off who are worried about eating whilst moving but please don’t worry. It moves so slowly that you really don’t notice. I believe it makes one full rotation about every hour. The best seats are on the outer tier of the restaurant as they are booths that face the attraction. The seats on the inner tier are regular rectangular tables.
I hate to say it but at most character meals at Walt Disney World the food always comes second to the characters. Garden Grill is different! The food here, for me anyway, is the best of all character breakfasts. Big statement I know but it really is good.
Some of the food items they serve within the restaurant come directly from the living with the land attraction.
Firstly you are served a bowl of fresh fruit and a giant warm sticky cinnamon bun.
The fruit is just so fresh and juicy. On this visit we had melon, pineapple, strawberry’s and blueberries. On previous visits we have also had kiwi.
The Cinnamon bun is the star of Garden Grill. Its warm and gooey and sticky. What more could you want? The portion is also huge. There was two of us and we couldn’t finish it!
For the main breakfast you are served a skillet of potato barrels, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs and Mickey Waffles. You are also provided with fresh salsa, chocolate ganache and syrup.
Disney breakfasts are nothing without Mickey Waffles! They are a staple food of any Disney World trip and our waffles were cooked perfectly. They were crispy on the edges but soft and fluffy on the inside. The chocolate ganache and syrup were perfect accompaniments.
All the other breakfast items were just as good as the waffles. The eggs were fluffy, the bacon crispy and the potato barrels crunchy. I couldn’t fault any of the items.
We have visited Garden Grill several times over the last two years and have always had really amazing character interaction. Unfortunately this time it wasnt to the level we had come to expect. To make it clear there was nothing wrong with the interaction we had- all characters took photos and gave lots of hugs but on previous visits the interaction had been amazing.
Our ADR this trip was near to the end of the breakfast slot and we appeared to be the last family to see the characters and they all left the restaurant after visiting us. Normally we see a few characters twice and spend quite a bit of time with each one. Maybe on our next visit we will go earlier.
We had another great meal at Garden Grill and it is still my favourite character meal at Walt Disney World. Although this time the character interaction wasn’t as good as previously I still wouldn’t hesitate to return. The food is the best of any character meal I have ever been to and I love how some of it comes from Living with the Land.
